Brooklyn, NY – A tragic motorcycle crash in Cypress Hills claimed two lives on Monday night.
Police say the accident happened around 8:10 p.m. on Atlantic Avenue near Elton Street. A Harley Davidson motorcycle, traveling westbound, collided with the rear of a Mercedes SUV that was making a left turn.
The impact threw both riders from the motorcycle. The driver, 42-year-old Reinaldo Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 42-year-old Mirella Vega, was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where she later passed away.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was also transported to Brookdale Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

A Reminder About Road Safety
Collisions like this show just how devastating motorcycle crashes can be. With less protection than other vehicles on the road, riders are especially vulnerable in serious impacts.
For families left behind, the aftermath can bring more than grief — often, there are unanswered questions about what happened, and what rights they may have moving forward.
